My Matchbox Car display

I've been slowing collecting Hot Wheels Matchbox cars, mainly because I've always wanted to collect them, but also for my nephew to play with when he comes over. However I never had a decent place to display them, which is what you would do with something you collect, and the place that they were being 'displayed' was quickly running out of room! So I came up with this little display solution. Here is what it looked like before As you can see, it's not the best solution, and adding more cars is about to become very problematic. My idea was to add 'shelves' to the edges of this shelf, which will allow the cars to sit, so all cars can be seen at all times, and easily accessed.. Then, to add a nice finishing touch, I would add some LED's, which would light up the display, and make selecting a car to play with (at least for my nephew) a little easier. This is the concept that I came up with At the time of making the concept, I thought I was goi...

Large Format printing at home

I found this really great wallpaper online that I liked so much, I decided I wanted to hang it up in my room, as a poster. Being an impatient person, I wanted to be able to print it out myself so I could hang it straight up. I had seen this effect done before online somewhere, and throught it would be perfect for printing this picture out nice and large. This is the result: View from bedroom door From the foot of the bed As you can see, the bottom of the picture isn't quite complete because my printer ran out of Black ink, so it refused to go on, even though there was plenty of colour ink.. quite annoying. To create it, I made a large Photoshop document, to the exact size for 5x4 A4 sheets of paper, with 1cm gaps in between. Then using masks and exporting each section to a different image and printing, I was able to put them together to look like this. Very happy with the result, however printing onto glossy paper would have given it a much better look. I may end up ...

Nail and String Art Display

I saw an example of this on my Pinterest feed, and thought that I could do it with my nephews name, so I gave it a shot. Turned out very well, very happy with it. Basically all I needed was some mdf, cut to size, some nails and coloured string. I then picked a font that I wanted in MS Word, printed out the word in big font, transferred the design onto the wood, and hammered the nails in around the letters. Dead simple to do, and it's a pretty great effect. The only thing I would change if I were to do it again, is to hammer the nails outside the lines of the letters, instead of on the line of the letters. That way for the parts where there is a little 'kick' in the font, it'll be a little more prominent and easy to notice. Here are some photo's of it as I went. First letter done: Name finished: Name and outline done: Insides of each letter completed: Halfway there with the 'stringing': Completed design:  From a bit more of a...
